What Are Addi Knitting Needles?

Addi, (addi), is a German company making knitting needles, crochet hooks, and accessories. It’s over 190 years old. From there, the needles are sold to people in more than 55 countries!

Skacel by addi is the company that distributes to Local Yarn Stores in North America. Customers in the U.S can find the full range of needles listed on their website. They also have a handy shop locater for yarn stores.

If you are in the UK, addineedles.co.uk is an online store where customers can shop the addi needle options. Shipping costs depend on the size of the delivery.

For a business with such humble beginnings, it’s grown to be a favorite of knitters worldwide. As part of their philosophy, all needles are covered by a lifetime guarantee.

What are Addi needles made of? Metal (steel), bamboo, plastic, wood and acrylic. They have many products, each designed for a specific purpose. I’ll go through all the different ones and their intended uses. Here is the result of my research of the best, and all their products.

They now even offer a handy app for knitting and crochet called addi2go. It may have slightly different product names than the North American addi needles.

Addi Click & Addi Click Interchangeable Knitting Needles

Addi clicks are their most popular item. Most interchangeables have tiny screws or keys to keep the parts in place. Still, they’ve come up with a better idea. The addi click system is genius! No struggling to fit the pieces together, one “click” and everything is secured.

If you’re struggling to decide what set to buy, addi click basic is a great set. People aren’t kidding when they say Germans are excellent engineers and designers.

Key Features:

  • A variety of needles and cord lengths – Over 500 unique combinations with the premium set.
  • Excellent investment if you need many sizes of circular needles.
  • Easy to remove and change over, a unique patented system of “clicking” the two parts together. No screws or keys required.
  • Handmade in Germany
  • Ease of changing gauge throughout the knitting process
  • More comfortable than other metal needles for people with arthritis

How To Use Addi Click Knitting Needles

Using addi clicks quite simple, but one thing you should know is how to connect your Addi Click Interchangeables.

Choose the tips and the cord you need. Put the cable in one hand and the needle in the other. Gently insert the tip into the wire, twist to the right. It will lock.

Some kits also come with a connector. It can make cords longer if you need it. To release the parts, press the need inward, twist the opposite way, left.of

Continue to use them as you would use regular circular needles. If you prefer, they sell fixed circulars. More information later in the post.

Addi Double Pointed Needles

These may look complicated at first but fear not. They’re useful for knitting socks, hats, sleeves, and other projects in the round. Here are all the types of addi double pointed needles.

addi FlexiFlips

My set of Addi Flexi Flips - 3 double ended needles with a flexible cable in-between.

Their main line of DPNs, these are a work of engineered prowess as well, made specifically for the North America market. Usually, you have four needles in double-pointed knitting, but Flexiflips only have three.

Your stitches are distributed on two needles, and the third is for knitting. Instead of many needle changes per row, you have two. Much easier!

Key Features

  • Unique design for ease of making things
  • Two types of materials, bamboo, and metal.
  • Bamboo Flexiflips has a turbo tip on each end
  • Metal Flexiflips has 1 Addi Rockets tip (sharper tip) and 1 Turbo tip (more rounded tip)

Addi FlexiFlips In Action

Staci at Very Pink Knits prefers using the Addi FlexiFlips for knitting small projects in the round, like socks compared to the method of the magic loop on a long cable circular needle.

In this video, she shows you how to cast on stitches using 2 Addi FlexiFlips and then knitting in the round using the 3rd FlexFlip needle.

The beauty of these needles is the last stitch is actually on the needle, so it holds its size. Unlike the Magic Loop where the last stitch is on the cable, it makes it smaller, and knitters tend to pull this too tight.
